Northern Italy is counting the cost after a tornado, hail and heavy rain damaged hundreds of buildings.

The powerful tornado hit in the Emilio Romagna region of Northern Italy on Friday.

The tornado arrived with hail and heavy rain, damaging hundreds of homes and injuring at least 12 people.

The region's governor has asked the central government to declare a state of emergency.

The Italian agricultural watchdog, Coldiretti, has warned of millions of euros losses because of damage to farms and crops.
