Inspector Angelo Gafa, one of the police's top prosecutors, has been transferred to the Security Service, informed sources said.

Among the high profile cases he investigated and prosecuted recently were the oil procurement scandal and the case against Silvio Zammit  who stands accused of trading in influence by seeking a €60m bribe to bring about a change in the EU's Tobacco Directive.

Inspector Gafa joins his former boss, Assistant Commissioner Michael Cassar former head of the economic crimes unit, who was recently made head of the Security Service.
