The Malta Gymnastics Federation recently held the National Artistic Championships at the Cottonera Sports Complex. Equipment was supplied by the federation, SportMalta and member clubs.

The 97 gymnasts in competition varied in ages from six to 18, and hailed from Acrobatic Jumpers, Chun Gymnastics, Degymnastics, Gymstars and ISC clubs.

The level reached was high and it was clear at the end of the competition that a new generation of elite athletes is emerging.

In all, a total of 248 medals were awarded.

The overall winners of the FIG Junior and Senior were Niamh Agius and Suzanne Buttigieg, respectively.

Certificates were also handed to 15 Level One coaches on completion of their course.

In a statement, the Malta Gymnastics Federation than-ked the clubs, judges and coaches for their contribution, SportMalta and its staff for their invaluable support, and sponsors who helped make the event possible.

Various officials from the Maltese Olympic Committee also visited the venue during competition and were pleasantly surprised with the large number of competitors and the display on show.

The federation is now preparing its team for the COJI Games in Mallorca at the end of May.

Four artistic gymnasts and two in rhythmic gymnastics will represent the country.
