Two men who admitted to stealing tools, cash and construction materials have been granted bail pending judgment.

David Bugeja, 48, unemployed, and Joseph Scerri, 50, a tile layer, both from Ħamrun, were arraigned under arrest and pleaded guilty to two thefts which took place months apart.

The first theft occurred in February when the two stole cash and tools from a parked Ford Transit van in Farson Street, Ħamrun.

The second theft took place this Monday, when the pair stole a gas cylinder and a roll of membrane from a construction site in Santa Venera.

The two were also charged with being relapsers, while Mr Scerri was separately charged with having breached bail conditions.

After hearing both men plead guilty, duty magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit upheld a request for bail pending delivery of judgment.

Bail was granted against a personal guarantee of €5,000 each, while each man was ordered to sign the bail book once a week and to observe a curfew between midnight and 6.00am.

Judgment is expected later this month.

Inspector Spiridione Zammit prosecuted. Lawyer Noel Cutajar was defence counsel.
