The letter from Philip Grech (April 18) was, to say the least, pedantic.

He objected "most strongly" to the letter heading of Jobs For Down's Sufferers. A heading should be concise for readers to instantly relate to and decide whether or not to continue reading the letter.

For him to nitpick by stating that "Down's" and "sufferers" are politically inaccurate, when neither term is derogatory or demeaning, is a bit silly. The alternative would have been a heading of Employment Opportunities For Persons with Down Syndrome, which would be almost as long as the letter itself.

We have come a long way in the last 10 years or so, when those with the condition were called "Mongols" due to their facial features, which resemble a native of Mongdia, and parents or carers kept them inside, out of sight. Greater knowledge of the condition, along with others such as cerebral palsy who were called, not unkindly, "Spastics" has made it no longer acceptable or necessary to keep them hidden away from view.

The National Commission for Persons with a Disability do such great work, they are, by their very nature, a little over-zealous and I truly believe that, even though they published a code of practice for the media, they would agree with me that Mr Grech is doing no favours to those with such conditions by his letter.
