I realise that you cannot make an omelette unless you break eggs, but surely the economy of an island that relies so much on tourism is in danger of building too much, too quickly and to the detriment of the objective which should be ‘a nice place to visit’.
We recently returned from a 10-day holiday visiting Malta and Gozo. We enjoyed it, but we were warned that some areas were “a gigantic building site”.
Our first hotel was in Sliema. It was almost impossible to take a photograph without including cranes, which seemed to be everywhere. Gozo was not so bad. The saying “it will be all right when it is finished” came to mind.
However, surely a percentage of your visitors will not bother again. That is the way we feel.
