26-year-old Nigerian Uwadiae Leo was this morning given a six-month jail term suspended for four years after pleading guilty to trying to leave Malta using false identification.

When handing down judgement, magistrate Doreen Clarke took into consideration that Mr Leo cooperated with the police and provided them with information that led to the arrest of 23-year-old Festus Obodo from Togo.

Mr Obodo was this morning jailed for three years after he pleaded guilty to trafficking immigrants out of Malta.

He also pleaded guilty to conspiring with a group of people to commit a crime.
