A one-year old girl who fell a height of two storeys from a balcony yesterday is in critical, but stable condition, hospital sources said this afternoon.

The incident happened at a housing estate in Pembroke.

The toddler hit a cobbled area in front of a block of flats in Pietru D’Armenia Street. She initially stood up, crying, after the fall.

She was not bleeding but had a big bruise on her head.

Nobody was sure how the accident happened, although some neighbours said the toddler may have climbed on to a wicker chair on the balcony and toppled over.
