Times of Malta reports that tax investigators are going undercover in their fight against VAT-dodging software being used by dishonest entrepreneurs. A second story says that most of the almost 1,000 people struck off the unemployment
register last year had failed to prove they were actively trying to find a job.

L-orizzont says the American company Crane Currency was expected to start operating by the end of the year. It also says a police raid led to the discovery of cannabis at a Marsa bar. 

The Malta Independent reports that the fine for throwing a cigarette butt on the ground was higher than parking a crane illegally. It also reports that former MP Frank Portelli is among the contenders for the post of Nationalist Party leader. 

In-Nazzjon gives prominence to the PN leadership election on September 2, carrying pictures of Frank Portelli and Alex Perici Calascione submitting their nomination.
