The following are the top stories in national newspapers on Wednesday.

Times of Malta says that according to official figures, severe poverty is, for the first time in a decade, being experienced by less than a fifth of the population, though more people face the risk of poverty. In another story it says footage described in court shows that the knife attack on Hugo Chetcuti, who died a few days later, lasted just seconds.

L-Orizzont says the knife used in the murder had traces of a third person’s blood.

The Malta Independent says PN MPs who challenged leader Adrian Delia never intended to depose him as leader.

Malta Today says former PN leader Simon Busuttil and PN media chief Pierre Portelli are unlikely to face criminal action over the Egrant inquiry.
