As part of the supporting infrastructure of the public transport reform, Transport Malta will be commencing works next week to upgrade the existing priority lanes located along Triq Aldo Moro in Marsa and Triq Sant' Anna and Triq Sarria in Floriana.

The works will involve the scarifying of the existing road surface and the application of a wearing course.

The new priority lanes which will have a distinctive green surface will provide a clear signal to motorists not to drive over them, making enforcement easier, and allowing buses to travel easier along their designated routes.

The choice of the green coloured surface reflects TM's aim to encourage more environmentally conscious forms of travel.

The bus priority lanes will be exclusively restricted to route buses, coaches and mini buses, taxis, bicycles, motorcycles and emergency vehicles only.

A fine of up to €58 will be incurred if other categories of vehicles make use of the priority lane, TM said.
