The bomb which seriously injured a traffic expert at Transport Malta this morning brought to mind another three explosions during the month of December which caused casualties.

The most serious incident was the letter bomb explosion in December 1977 which killed 15-year-old Karin Grech and injured her brother.

In the evening of December 18, 1985, three policemen and a girl were injured when a bomb placed on a window sill of Sliema police station exploded. The injured were Constables Godfrey Cassar and Peter Barberi, who were seriously hurt , Sergeant Joseph Micallef and 12-year-old Claudia Pecorella.

Last year, on December 22, Philip Cini, 60, was seriously injured when a parcel exploded as he was opening it at his residence in Qormi.

The incident happened at about 1.30 p.m. in St Edward Street, close to the health centre.

The parcel appeared to have been placed at the doorstep of the house. The explosion took place in the first floor apartment, blowing out the door of a balcony.

Mr Cini suffered severe injuries to his left hand and also suffered injuries to his right hand and torso.
