Zebbug Rovers 1
Nadur Youngsters 0

A last-gasp goal decided the much-anticipated match between leaders Nadur and Zebbug Rovers.

The encounter unfolded into a very interesting one, both teams showing great determination to clinch the points. Rough tackles were also a feature of this fiery encounter, leading referee Kevin Azzopardi to caution a number of players.

Nadur paid a very dear price for the frenetic tempo as they were forced into two substitutions early on after two players suffered injuries. They also ended the match with ten men following the dismissal of Paul Camilleri for two yellow cards.

Nadur were the more dangerous side in the early stages, going close to scoring with attempts by Chris Camilleri, Maczerob Okoro and Paul Camilleri.

Zebbug replied with a good effort by Patrick Camilleri in the 18th minute that was saved by Nadur goalkeeper Vella. In the 39th minute, Nadur had a goal by Mark Buttigieg disallowed on the grounds of offside.

After the restart, Nadur threatened to take the lead but Zebbug goalkeeper Xuereb blocked a shot by Anthony Portelli.

Zebbug's Touali Mahjoub was unlucky in the 52nd minute when his free-kick cannoned off the crossbar.

After Nadur's Camilleri was sent off in the 63rd minute, it was the Rovers who gained an upperhand. Their late resurgence was rewarded at the death when Victor Egere freed Mahjoub who struck home from the edge of the area.

Xewkija Tigers 2
Victoria Hotspurs 0

Xewkija Tigers made amends for their loss of two points after their first round match against Victoria Hotspurs was ended prematurely because of incidents.

Last weekend, Xewkija met the same Victoria and defeated them 2-0 to register their fifth consecutive league victory.

Xewkija's success and the results of the other Division One matches meant that the Tigers now trail leaders Nadur by one point and have a game in hand.

Two goals in the first half set Xewkija en route to victory. After 13 minutes, Xewkija were awarded a penalty after Debrincat was adjudged to have fouled Jason Portelli. The latter converted from the spot-kick to put the Tigers in the lead.

The Hotspurs staged a good reaction, going close to scoring the equaliser with two attempts by Justin Sacco.

However, the score became 2-0 in the 38th minute with a tap-in by Jeffrey Farrugia after he received from Sabri Rais.

Two goals to the good, Xewkija found little difficulty to control proceedings after the change of ends. They could have increased their winning margin but Conti and Farrugia missed good scoring opportunities.

Victoria could have reopened the issue three minutes from time but a lob by Nkwocha was hooked off the line by Rais.

Referee: Reno Refalo.

Qala St joseph 0
Ghajnsielem 3

Ghajnsielem bounced back from two consecutive defeats in the championship with a good victory over bottom-placed Qala St Joseph.

The Blacks have now moved to within a point of leaders Nadur who have played a game more.

Ghajnsielem were the better side but Qala goalkeeper Mercieca denied them an early lead when he saved attempts by Buttigieg.

Qala could have forged ahead late in the first half but shots by Joseph Grech and Joe Xerri were blocked by goalkeeper Attard.

Eight minutes after the break, Ghajnsielem struck. Pouncing on a rebound after Qala custodian Mercieca had partially blocked a free-kick by Grima, Aloysius Ihbeulu had an easy job to tap the ball home.

Two minutes later, Qala had Julius Ngangue sent off after he cleared the ball with his hands on the goalline.

Ghajnsielem failed to take advantage of the resultant penalty as Mercieca saved Dimitrov's shot.

In the 77th minute, Ghajnsielem doubled their lead with a goal by Errol Grima and, five minutes from time, Ihbeulu secured the three points with a third goal. The Ghajnsielem striker headed home from close range after a good cross by Attard.

Referee: Chris Lautier.

Sprite Division II

The top-of-the-table clash between leaders Sannat Lions and second-placed Gharb Rangers ended in a 1-1 draw. This was a keenly-contested affair with the final score in the balance until the very end.

Gharb surged ahead in the 11th minute through Roy Vella. Sannat fought back admirably but spurned scoring opportunities through Mutalib. The Lions' fightback paid dividends when Mark Formosa slotted home the equaliser just past the half-hour mark.

In the other match from the second division, Kercem recorded their first victory, defeating St Lawrence 3-0.
