Two old political rivals, Eddie Fenech Adami and Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici sparred again this evening during TimesTalk.

The tension rose when Dr Mifsud Bonnici was told in an interview that he had been described by Dr Fenech Adami in his autobiography as politically corrupt.

In his book, Dr Fenech Adami said he was sure Dr Mifsud Bonnici was not personally corrupt. He never took a penny. But he was politically corrupt for accepting things which suited his party.

Dr Mifsud Bonnici said politics brought out a bad side to Dr Fenech Adami which he never realised in their previous years of friendship.

Dr Mifsud Bonnci described Dr Fenech Adami as divisive in opposition and in government and said it was Dr Fenech Adami who tolerated some things because they suited his party.

Dr Mifsud Bonnici spoke of bombs and 'acts of terrorism' and said that Dr Fenech Adami or the PN must have known where they originated from in the same way as the government of the time had received information. (See video). He also described Dr Fenech Adami as prim giddieb.

Dr Fenech Adami denied Dr Mifsud Bonnici's claims. He insisted that he or his party colleagues never knew of the source of such violence, they never wanted violence, and never gave any tacit approval for it. What Dr Mifsud Bonnici had said was therefore completely untrue.

Dr Fenech Adami also described Dr Mifsud Bonnici as an idealist for whom the end justified the means, even if it meant removing him in what he viewed as the interests of the country.

Former prime minister Alfred Sant also gave his comments about Dr Fenech Adami (see below)
