Darrin Zammit Lupi, a photographer with The Times, The Sunday Times and timesofmalta.com, is representing Malta at 'Active Witness – An Exhibition of Photography to Celebrate the European Year of Volunteering'.

His entry, An immigrant is rescued by the Armed Forces of Malta, was very well received by the critics at the Private View.

To celebrate the European Year of Volunteering, EUNIC London brought together 27 works by photographers from 27 countries, whose work either engages directly with the voluntary sector or with closely related social issues.

The selected works cover subjects ranging from homelessness, to displaced populations, social care, rehabilitation and disaster relief.

The aim of the exhibition is to illustrate circumstances and issues of concern and raise awareness of the importance of active participation and volunteering as a positive response.

This exhibition is curated by Simon Baker – curator of the photography and international art of the Tate, and Ines de Bordas, with the support from the cultural institutes and cultural attachés of the 27 participating states, including the Malta High Commission.

'Active Witness' is open to the public until September 9, Mondays to Fridays 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at 12 Star Gallery, Europe House, 32 Smith Square, London SW1P 3EU.
