Sometimes I wonder if the government is really on top of things, or whether everything is out of control. The illegal immigration issue is a case in point.

What is worrying most people I speak to is that the government does not seem to really have a planned solution. Everything is being done ad-hoc. Decisions are being taken on a case-by-case basis.

The result: sometimes it goes our way, and sometimes it does not. It's useless trying to look bullish on local television, when we all know the outcome. The Armed Forces of Malta recently had to pick up immigrants because mighty Italy didn't have the resources in the vicinity to do so.

Their resources were in their port in Lampedusa prohibiting the Maltese boat from entering Italian waters to disembark the illegal migrants, where they should have disembarked. The government's lack of control is now becoming an international farce.

Malta needs serious people who can take serious decisions to tackle serious problems.
