Xagħra United chalked up their first victory of the league after beating Oratory Youths 3-0 as Xewkija Tigers edged St Lawrence Spurs to join Żebbuġ Rovers at the top of the Division Two standings in Gozo.

The Spurs have high hopes of promotion this season but came a cropper against Xewkija who are now joint leaders with seven points.

The Tigers opened a two-goal lead with goals from Christian Bugeja and Rodney Buttigieg either side of half-time. The Spurs re-opened the issue with a Paul Anthony Attard goal but Xewkija defended stoutly to return home with all three points in the bag.

Xagħra were the better team against Oratory.

They opened the score in the first half through Joseph Sultana and made sure of victory with two late Silvan Galea goals.
