Chinese hostesses pose on Tiananmen Square during the opening session of the National People’s Congress (NPC) in Beijing yesterday. In a “state of the nation” speech opening the annual 10-day session of the NPC, premier Wen Jiabao yesterday acknowledged “great resentment” in China over growing income disparity, corruption and other problems, and vowed his government would work harder to meet public demands.
