The 2010/11 winter schedule of the Zazu Football School (ZFS) will kick off on September 28.

Launched by former Malta U-21 coach Ray Farrugia in 2004, the ZFS has earned a reputation as one of the leading organisations in youth football education on the Maltese islands.

Training sessions, held daily on the artificial pitch of the San Ġwann FC ground, are designed to suit the needs of the participants in the different age-groups (from four to 14 years).

“Running a private football school in a small country like Malta is not easy but with determination and hard work nothing is impossible,” Farrugia said.

“I’m pleased that the school has continued to flourish in recent years. This is down to the contribution of our dedicated staff coaches, the commitment of our young members and their parents as well as the sponsors.

“The enthusiasm of the children, their willingness to learn and improve, is what gives me and the coaches the motivation to do more than our best to sustain the high levels achieved by the school.

“For the new season, we’re planning to introduce some initiatives but the ZFS philosophy remains the same... we want to help children fulfil their potential in a safe and enjoyable environment.”

The 2009/10 season at ZFS wrapped up with the annual penalty shoot-out which attracted the participation of over 100 youngsters and a good number of parents. The presence of Malta and Sheffield United striker Daniel Bogdanovic at the penalty shoot-out enhanced the allure of the occasion.

Farrugia and his collaborators also conducted a summer school which the former Pietà coach described as “the best-attended since the school’s launch six years ago”.

The ZFS is supported by Peugeot, Assikura Insurance, TeamSport, Westin Dragonara Resort, Tower Supermarket, Medairco, Sixt, XFM Radio, Munchies Restaurant and Reflections Bar and Restaurant.
