A woman whose brazen faced thefts from various stores around Malta were captured on CCTV  has been handed a three-year effective jail term.

Elaine Rapinett, 33, raided numerous commercial outlets and was was arrested and brought to justice after footage from the raided shops put the police on her trail.

Over a span of 11 days, kicking off on January 19, the woman targeted stores in Balzan, Zejtun, Sliema, Valletta, Qormi and Ta’ Xbiex.

Among the stolen items were a Samsung Tab, a PlayStation pro 4, a MacBook, other electronic equipment, clothes, perfumes and pharmacy products.

The woman pleaded guilty to all the charges.

Taking note of the serious nature of the charges, the accused’s criminal record reflecting her unruly lifestyle as well as her early guilty plea and cooperation with the police, the court declared the woman guilty and condemned her to an effective jail term of three years.

The court further recommended that the Director of Prison should provide the accused with all necessary help to combat her drug problem.
