The last Sunday afternoon meeting of the season yesterday included eight scratch trotting events, six of which heats from two different championships, Classes A/B and E/F, on the 2,140-metre distance. Other qualifiers from the same two competitions took place on Friday.

Racing will now continue at Marsa on Tuesday and Thursday evenings as from this week, starting at 7.30 p.m.

Charles Degiorgio was the meeting's best driver yesterday with three wins. Julian Farrugia was winning driver twice.

First place in the opening Classes A/B heat yesterday (actually it was heat five) went to Farrugia's RMC Mystic. This trotter crossed the finishing line some five lengths ahead of Allegori after increasing its pace along the last 150m. Ilo Haleryd, Djinn Marcos Milo and Patron Tilly also qualified in that order.

In the next A/B heat, Farrugia's Junior Comet returned to winning form thanks to an impressive surge which took off 300m away from the post. Mistys Magic, Monsieur Shane, Equito and Gregorio also made it to the next stage in that order.

A final tussle, involving Cyrus Bonbeth, Feeling Way and Linus Car, ended in a close win for the former trotter, yesterday driven by Degiorgio. Idol Gelj was the other horse which made it to the semi-finals.

Dix Mai looked set to win yesterday's first E/F heat, the fourth one of the competition, but was pipped to the post by Charlie Hawn, also driven by Degiorgio.

Dream Rocky, under Degiorgio's charge, made it first past the post in the heat that followed. Frank Portelli's Mr Sugarcane then shot into the lead a lap from home to win the remaining Class E/F heat.
