Three rowers will be braving the 600 km stretch of sea between Sardinia and Malta next month in aid of the Children in Need Foundation.

Daniel Abela, Neville Calleja and Reuben Vassallo will be rowing for about 10 days, in a purposely built boat which they are renting out of their own pockets. The boat has already been used for a trip across the Atlantic.

All proceeds will go to the foundation. The aim of their challenge is to raise funds to support projects related to Puttinu and Inspire.

"We hope to raise enough funds to pay for dream holidays for sick children and their families, and we also hope to be able to fund the setting up of Malta's first educational centre to help children with learning disabilities," said Mr Abela, who heads the foundation.

Mr Abela had raised about €90,000 five years ago when he single handedly rowed between Sicily and Malta.

Donations can be done by means of a cheque payable to:'The Children in Need Foundation', 217/1 21st September Avenue, Naxxar
