An argument about a Chihuahua dog ended up with a man allegedly firing three shots in the direction of another.

Police investigating a "road rage" report on Monday evening found that a 25-year-old-man from Cospicua was injured by gunshot. It turned out that it was not a case of road rage but an argument about dogs the man bought from the alleged aggressor. Police sources said the Cospicua man had bought two Chihuahuas for about Lm80 from a 52-year-old man from Balzan but they died. The buyer went back to the Balzan man insisting he be given another dog for free. An argument ensued and, the sources added, the Balzan man allegedly went upstairs, fetched a shotgun and shot three times in the direction of the victim.

The man was hospitalised as he was suffering from extensive wounds in the back and face. Sources said he had been hit with about 150 pellets in the back and four in the face.

The Balzan man, and his 17-year-old son, are expected to be charged with attempted murder today.
