Three possible cases of arson were reported last night, the police said.

The first case was at 1.35am on a garage door in Triq il-Munxar, Munxar. Immediate police action prevented the fire from spreading and although the garage door was damaged, a car that was in the garage was not.

The second incident was at 3.30am when a burning type was placed in front of a residence in Triq Guze Pace, Hamrun. A person who saw the tyre informed the police who, on arriving on site, saw that a water pipe had burst because of the heat. They pushed the tyre under the pipe, putting out the fire.

The third case was at 4am when the police were informed that there was a car on fire at  Valletta Road in Qormi.

The police used fire extinguishers to control the fire. A Toyota Hilux was damaged.

A building in the vicinity was also damaged.

Inquiries are being held.
