The hunters' federation yesterday praised Nationalist MEPs David Casa and Simon Busuttil for joining an EP intergroup about sustainable hunting, giving Malta the biggest representation in the group.

The federation (FKNK), last week announced it had advised its 12,000 members to vote for six Labour MEP candidates because they were the only ones who were sympathetic to their cause. Their favourite candidate, John Attard Montalto, achieved some 65 per cent of the vote of hunters and trappers, according to a survey they released.

The FKNK yesterday praised Dr Attard Montalto for being the first Maltese MEP to join the intergroup called Sustainable Hunting, Biodiversity, Rural Activities, Agriculture and Forestry.

Dr Attard Montalto was the only Maltese MEP who had formed part of the intergroup in the past European Parliament term but now that it had been reconstituted, Dr Busuttil and Mr Casa have signed up too.

FKNK said it would now continue to lobby the other two Maltese MEPs, Louis Grech and Edward Scicluna, to join.
