The three matches from the BOV Division One championship, due to have been played yesterday evening at the Centenary Stadium and Luxol Stadium, were postponed due to the heavy thunderstorms that caused havoc in the country.

At the Centenary Stadium, the match between Żurrieq and St George’s kicked off as planned amid strong winds and lashing rain. But, after 13 minutes, with the score still goalless, referee Stefan Pace stopped the match temporarily in the hope that the weather conditions would improve.

However, as the bad weather persisted, Pace had no option but to abandon the match as he deemed that the conditions were dangerous for the players and officials present at the stadium.

MFA officials also called off the second match at the Centenary Stadium, between Gudja and Melita, and the Rabat Ajax vs Fgura United game, at the Luxol Stadium, for safety reasons.

Weather-permitting, the Division One league is expected to resume today with a two-match programme at the Centenary Stadium.

Lija Athletic face Vittoriosa Stars at 2pm while Birżebbuġa St Peter’s take on Msida St Joseph at 4pm.

The remaining matches will be played tomorrow, also at the Centenary Stadium, with Mqabba playing Pembroke at 2pm, followed by Gżira vs St Andrew’s at 4pm.
