A private jet from Tripoli on Monday brought to Malta six Maltese women who are married to Libyan men, and their four children. The husbands opted to remain in Libya.

Speaking at a media briefing this evening, the Director of Information, Martin Bugelli said 228 Maltese have so far been taken out of Libya, 14 are on their way out, three are staying put for the time being and no contact has yet been made with another three.

Mr Bugelli said that there were in all some 12,000 evacuees who used Malta as a transit point – 3,581 arrived here by air, the rest by sea. The evacuees came from 89 nationalities.
