Three people were killed in Germany after a light aircraft ploughed into woods and exploded south of Frankfurt, spreading debris over a wide area, police said yesterday.

The twin-engine Beechcraft 90, which took off from the northern city of Bremen, crashed as it was coming into land at a small airstrip in Egelsbach around 25 kilometres south of Frankfurt on Monday afternoon.

Three bodies were recovered from the wreckage and set to undergo an autopsy for identification. The cause of the crash was not yet clear, police said.
