Three Chinese nationals have claimed in court that a Gozitan restaurateur defrauded them of €2,329 after promising to get them Maltese citizenship.
The restaurateur, Manuel Cassar, 56 of Nadur, is denying the charges, which include misappropriation, falsification of official documents, and relapsing.
A court was told this morning that the three Chinese had made numerous payments to Mr Cassar, who had told them he was trying to get them Maltese citizenship. They alleged that he also sent them a false official letter from the authorities declaring that they had been granted citizenship.
Mr Cassar was granted bail against a guarantee of €5,000 and a deposit of €500.
