Update 8.25pm

Three children including a nine-month-old baby boy were injured, in a traffic accident in Qormi this afternoon. 

The children, a 13-year-old girl, a boy aged five and the baby, were in the back seat of a Ford Fiesta being driven by a UK national who lives in Għaxaq aged 32. A woman, also aged 32, was in the front passenger seat. 

The crash happened on Lion Street at around 2pm and involved a Renault Clio driven by a 20-year-old male from Siġġiewi, the police said. 

Ambulances took the children to Mater Dei hospital for treatment. The five-year-old was seriously injured in the crash, police said. The other victims' condition is not yet known.

A 32-year-old woman was also grievously injured. The other two children and the 20-year-old driver were slightly injured.

Lion Road was closed to traffic in both directions following the crash.
