Three Somali nationals have been remanded in custody after being arraigned on charges related to cannabis possession and trafficking.

Kheyre Heybe Mohamed, 26, residing in Gzira, and unemployed pleaded guilty to being in possession of 3.803g of cannabis resin and of being a relapser. The court, presided by magistrate Francesco Depasquale remanded the man in custody and put off the delivery of judgment to next Wednesday .

Sakariye Abdirahman Hassan, 22, a refuse collector and Abdirahman Aden Mohamud , 22, unemployed, were arraigned separately.

Mr Hassan pleaded not guilty to possession of cannabis and to having trafficked the drug at a distance of less than 100m from a school or club. He was denied bail, after telling the court that he had no fixed address.

Mr Mohamud, was also denied bail after pleading not guilty to trafficking cannabis resin and cocaine, as well as to possession of both drugs within less than 100m from a school or club.

When asked by the court where he resided, a tearful Mr Mohamud replied that he had no fixed address since the Maltese authorities had not provided him with one. "Malta rejected me, that is why I have no fixed address," the man explained by means of his interpreters.
