A father and son, along with another man, admitterd in court this morning to having been involved in a series of thefts with a total value of almost €500,000.

Glen and Ryan Debattista, aged  52 and 21, and Carmel Hartley, 40 admitted to stealing antique jewellery, diamonds and cash in a number of thefts last year. 

They stood charged with thefts from Pjazza Antiques and Capri Cafe' and also trying to steal money from an HSBC ATM in Republic Street, Valletta.

Glen and Ryan Debattista were granted bail pending judgement against a personal guarantee of €10,000 each.

Hartley, who was separately accused of fraud, is already in prison serving time on other theft-related cases. His defence counsel, Dr Stefano Filletti, said that in its judgement, the court should consider that the first court had made a mistake in the computation of the four years imprisonment.
