Two men and a woman escaped custodial sentences today after admitting theft.

Roberto Maugeri, a 20-year-old Italian, admitted stealing two mobile phones and €50 cash from customers in a bar in St Julians earlier today.

He was cautioned not to commit another crime within 30 months.

In a separate arraignment, a 17-year-old girl (who cannot be named because she is a minor) and Shawn Camilleri, 18, both of Birkirkara, admitted  robbing a Briton on the night of April 19-20. Violence was involved. The value of their haul was between €232.94 and €2329,37.

Camilleri was also accused of driving a Subaru Legacy without a licence and insurance.

The two pleaded guilty to the charges Camilleri was condemned to 19 months in prison suspended for a year while the girl was placed under a probation order.
