Two men and a woman were handed suspended jail terms today after pleading guilty to fraud of €356,000 to the detriment of Polmesh Ltd, a subsidiary of the Polidano Group.
Richard Attard, 50, director of Newco Steel Ltd, who admitted fraud of €280,000 was condemned to two years imprisonment suspended for four years. He has already returned €100,000 and is to pay the balance within six months.
Duncan Cefai, 33 of Marsascala was handed a two-year jail term suspended for three years after he admitted fraud of €39,000, of which he has returned €10,000. He was ordered to settle the balance within six months.
Charlene Pace, 24 of Luqa, was condemned to a year’s imprisonment suspended for two years. She had admitted fraud of €31,000 and has so far returned €10,000 but the Court noted that she had been used in the commission of the crime.
Both Mr Cefai and Ms Pace were employees of Polmesh Ltd.
All three admitted to falsifying documents for their benefit.
