A man has been jailed for five months for threatening his ex-girlfriend and her father while drunk.

Christopher Micallef, 42, of Manikata was yesterday found guilty of threatening Shirley Abela and her father Emanuele in July of 2009.

He was also convicted of breaching the peace, resisting the police and assaulting two officers at the Mosta Health Centre and an officer at Mater Dei Hospital.

In a separate sitting also held yesterday, Mr Micallef pleaded guilty to cutting 10 electricity cables connected to a pumping station in Għajn Żnuber. Mr Micallef wanted to steal the copper wiring and, in so doing, caused around €16,000 worth of damage.

Duty Magistrate Doreen Clarke remanded him in custody and will hand down judgment next month.
