The annual pilgrimage to Zabbar by cyclists and bikers was held this morning, drawing one of the biggest crowds in recent years.

One of the organisers said that as many as 5,000 took part in the pilgrimage which started in Mosta for the cyclists and Rabat for the bikers.

They headed towards Zabbar behind vans with a big painting of Our Lady of Graces, who was declared patron saint of cyclists and bikers in 1951 - which was the first year of the pilgrimage.

The cyclists and bikers merged at the bottom of Sanctuary Street and proceeded to the Church in a cacophony of horns. The pilgrimage ended with a blessing.

The feast of Our Lady of Graces will be celebrated in Zabbar this evening.
