Thousands of people have packed Republic Street this morning for Children's Carnival.

They are enjoying parades by a number of bands, dancing competitions on Freedom Square and general fun by people wearing a variety of costumes, including a few Venetian ones. People are also milling around the colourful floats on the Granaries in Floriana.

Meanwhile, the association of Carnival Float Builders will hold a protest later today because it has not been given alternative premises to use as workshops. The enthusiasts have been ordered to evict Lower Fort St Elmo and stores near Luqa.

The highlight of today's official Carnival activities will be the late evening carnival at St Anne Street, Floriana. The activity will include the parade of carnival floats and dancing in the street. There will also be events for children.

Meanwhile, hundreds of people this morning continued to cross over to Gozo for the spontaneous Carnival in Nadur.
