Thousands of citizens young and old slipped on their running shoes on Sunday morning as they prepare to take part in the tenth edition of the President’s Solidarity Fun Run.

The annual event – arguably Malta’s largest sporting and charity event – sees participants make their way to Valletta from three different starting points, in Paola, St Venera or the University of Malta.

All three routes converged in Valletta, where DJs and on-stage presenters entertained the crowds at St George’s square.

President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca thanked participants for having taken part in the charity initiative. Deputy prime minister Chris Fearne and Opposition leader Adrian Delia were among the other dignitaries who joined her on stage.

Many participants made their way to the starting points using public transport, with Malta Public Transport having waived all ticket fees for Fun Run participants on the day between 8am and 2pm.

All proceeds from the event go towards the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation.

The annual event is being supported by Banif Bank for the 10th consecutive year.
