Almost €175,000 was collected during Oħloq Tbissima, the live 60-hour broadcasting marathon in aid of the work carried out by the Missionary Society of St Paul both locally and in Peru, Pakistan and the Philippines, which came to an end last Sunday at midnight.

The marathon, now in its eighth year, included activities such as discussions, a children's corner and a song festival. Time was also dedicated to Mass and prayer.

President George Abela, his wife Margaret and Archbishop Paul Cremona inaugurated the marathon, and Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi and opposition leader Joseph Muscat visited on Saturday morning, together with other Members of Parliament. They helped fill hampers with food which will be sent to Peru.

Telephone lines will remain open until Saturday. Those still wishing to donate may do so by phoning 5004 9853 (€7), 5003 6910 (€10), 5004 9855 (€12), 5004 9850 (€23), or send an SMS to 5061 8099 (€4.66).
