The aerial fireworks display at the annual feast in the village of Lija, is generally acknowledged as one of the finest. Residents of the village will invariably go one better and claim it as the finest, without equal. It is certainly spectacular and well worthy of this month's accolade as a must-see.

The feast of Is-Salvatur in Lija takes place on August 6, just nine days before probably the biggest spate of village feasts on Santa Maria.

But however grand and important the various Santa Maria festas are, the Lija feast is also very special. People really do come from all over Malta and Gozo to view the fireworks display at or near the village. The fireworks are manufactured at the St Michael Fireworks Factory, which - for safety reasons - is sensibly isolated on a hill between Lija and Mosta.

Founded 83 years ago, the factory has acquired an international reputation for excellence and was placed first in the Monaco International Fireworks Competition a few years back.

If you are in the vicinity of Lija in a few days' time, whatever you do, stop to watch the amazing display of fireworks at the Lija feast celebrations.
