Two men pleaded guilty and another pleaded not guilty today after having been accused in court of stealing €13,000 worth of sugar, almonds and other baking goods from a warehouse belonging to C Camilleri and Sons Confectioners, in Qormi.

Justin Farrugia, 20 and James Long, 31, both of Cospicua admitted to the theft which took place in various stages between September and December. Ephraim Tanti, 30, also from Cospicua, pleaded not guilty.

Police Inspector Roderick Zammit, prosecuting, said that all three men were employees of the company, although Mr Long only worked there over Christmas.

Mr Farrugia, he said, was the person who had benefited the most from the theft.

Magistrate Anthony Vella condemned Mr Farrugia to a suspended two-year jail term suspended for four years while Mr Long was condemned to an 18-month jail term suspended for three years.

Mr Tanti was granted bail.
