A 38-year-old man from Zebbug has been jailed for three years for taking part in a theft of more than €400,000 worth of jewellery and other items from a house in Sliema.

Joseph Camilleri, known as ix-xitan, also pleaded guilty to handling stolen property and relapsing.

Police inspector Joseph Mercieca told the court that Mr Camilleri took €20,000 in cash from the gold which has already been sold.

Some of the stolen items found in possession of the thief were exhibited in court.
