A man who is serving six years in prison, Massimo Caruso, has been jailed for another four years after he was found guilty of theft.

In his judgement, Magistrate Joseph Mifsud remarked that the accused knew what he was doing when stealing the cash and jewellery, the value of which was more than €2,300.

Moreover, when faced with forensic evidence, he opted not to explain how his fingerprints had been at the scene of the crime.

Not only had he not returned any of the items stolen, he also did not show any regret for his behaviour or for the major trauma he put his victim through. His victim had had to move house as a result.

Magistrate Mifsud recommended to the prison director that Mr Caruso should be assisted to overcome his drug problem and said he should be allowed to carry out community work.
