Following his well-received ‘Thesaurus Melitense’ exhibition back in 2007, well-known Maltese artist Brian Grima is now back to the forefront of Malta’s art scene with his follow-up solo exhibition aptly titled ‘Thesaurus Melitense II’.

A former student at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, Mr Grima’s love for Malta knows no bounds. He is in constant search of discovering new treasures that inspire his paintings. For this exhibition, apart from his usual ouvre, Brian is showcasing a series of fascinating artworks that are entirely dedicated to those items, places or people that he admires the most. Artists such as Maria Callas, Marylin Monroe, Sofia Loren, Salvador Dali, Tamara de Lempicka, Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida and Pablo Picasso all feature prominently in his works, together with a number of Egyptian artefacts and antique Maltese furniture, silver and architecture.

According to Mr Grima: "Undoubtedly, the common theme is Malta. I consider our country to be a treasure trove of history and culture, hence the name of the exhibition."

Thesaurus Melitense II  will be held at the Casino Maltese in Republic Street, Valletta. The exhibition will be open to the public from Friday, February 21 to Sunday, March 2. Opening hours are Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 6pm and Saturday to Sunday from 9.30am to 3pm. For more details, visit www.briangrima.com
