Singer Ira Losco this afternoon represented Malta in a link-up of 196 singers from as many countries who simultaneously sang All You Need Is Love to raise funds for Aids research.

The activity was held on the 42nd anniversary of a similar event which saw singers from 22 countries unite in the first live international television broadcast of this nature. Among them at the time were The Beatles who sang All You Need Is Love.

Live feeds from today's event were streamed to London and New York where they were seen simultaneously on 200 screens by a VIP crowd.

The event is expected to raise €3 million for the Global Fund Against Aids in Africa. Project (RED) was founded by Bono, the frontman of U2 and Bobby Shriver in order to engage the private sector in the fight against Aids, Malaria and tuberculosis in Africa.

Ira Losco sang the song at the Upper Barrakka gardens accopanied by 60 children from San Andrea school.
