Think about the most vulnerable, especially at Christmas, President Marie Louise Coleiro Preca appealed in her Christmas message to the nation.

The President said these were times during which she reflected more on the families and individuals who were denied the most basic needs.

She also reflected a lot on children who lived in homes, those who had to choose a parent with whom to spend the holidays, children who were bullied and those who experienced violence in their home.

The President said she also remembered victims of domestic violence, those who were alone, the sick, elderly who were left alone, people who lost loved ones, the homeless and the mentally ill.

The birth of a child in a manger, the President said, was bare of every material alienation which helped one realise that the glitters of the moment were not a good reply to the big questions of life.

Such questions would include the reasons for one’s existence, the vocation of man, how to build a fair and social world, how to live in peace, how to guarantee an environmentally healthy world, how to create and distribute wealth fairly, how to humanely help strangers, how to inspire hope and how to be role models to the younger generation.

The birth of Jesus called for people to remain authentic humans who understood the moral choices this brought with it, choices that could not be bought with money, that could not be changed with fame, titles, positions, power and unrivalled ambition, choices that were rich in spirit and love for humanity.

The Presidency would continue to be an opportunity to create opportunities for all the people without any distinction, President Coleiro Preca said.
