John Caruana (February 23) has to distinguish between the real Alfred Sant with his positive record in government and in opposition and the fictional, totally negative Alfred Sant created in all contributions emanating from the Nationalist Party media. The vast majority of Maltese voters are clever enough not to be taken in by PN propaganda because the facts speak for themselves.

As to the Labour defeat in the 1998 general election which Mr Caruana mentions, this had absolutely nothing to do with Dr Sant's capabilities as national leader and manager of the 1996-98 Labour Administration. May I remind readers that at the MLP general conference convened after the 1998 general election, Dr Sant was confirmed as MLP leader by a staggering 98.4 per cent of delegates' votes.

The real Dr Sant, not the fictional one created by the PN, is a great leader and a proven manager and public administrator.

Further comment would be superfluous.
