In the Talking Point titled Church And Open Debate On Divorce (August 25), to drive home his point Martin Scicluna quoted Pope Benedict XVI from his first encyclical letter in that “The just ordering of society and the state is a central responsibility of politics… A just society must be the achievement of politics not the Church”.
In my view, compatible with the subject matter of the Talking Point, it would have been more relevant for Mr Scicluna to quote Pope Benedict XVI from his speech on arrival in Malta last April stating that “Your nation should continue to stand up for the indissolubility of marriage both as a natural and as a sacramental institution and for the true nature of the family…”
