The Malta Police Association has filed a lawsuit against the Police Commissioner and auction house Obelisk to be allowed to take part in an auction of weapons and vehicles.

The case was also filed against the Home Affairs Ministry’s permanent secretary.

The officers claimed it was “discriminatory, arbitrary and illegal” to exclude them from the auction.

Bidders were asked to sign a declaration that they were not public officers. It is not known who made the rule, the association said, adding it had been forced to file the case after no progress was registered in three months of negotiations.
