The reality of Bisazza Street has been described by a former mayor of Sliema as "a huge expense to the taxpayer", a significant loss of parking places and an increase in the traffic experienced by the inner roads of the town.
Writing in The Times today, Nationalist MP Robert Arrigo, who is parliamentary assistant at the Ministry of Finance, the Economy and Investment, says that the saga of Bisazza Street, will have repercussions on the life of Sliema in general.
He asks questions about the decisions taken and hopes that the secret plans for the ferries would not be "another surprise and another spending spree in connection with a grand opening".
"I believe the council has the obligation towards its people to seriously discuss this project because we are likely to eventually get stuck in our own roads.
"Add to this the probability of more people being booked for contraventions by the wardens and the police and our living standards will surely be affected," he said.
